Deadbeat Blackout is a melodic metal band forged in the heart of Olympia, Washington. Formed in 2017, the group was born out of a shared vision among its founding members to create music that was as emotionally resonant as it was sonically intense. Drawing on diverse influences from melodic metal, gothic rock, and modern metalcore, Deadbeat Blackout blends searing riffs, haunting melodies, and introspective lyrics into a sound that is both aggressive and atmospheric.
The band played its first live show at Tim’s Tavern in Seattle in early 2018, quickly building momentum with a string of energetic performances throughout the Pacific Northwest. That summer, they entered the studio to record their self-titled debut EP, featuring standout tracks Tear It Down and Nemesis. The EP captured the raw energy of their live shows while showcasing the band’s melodic sensibility and lyrical depth.
In 2020, Deadbeat Blackout released their first full-length album, Void of Silence. The album was unveiled during a high energy release show at The Swiss in Tacoma in February, just weeks before the global COVID-19 lockdown brought the live music scene to a halt. With momentum building and a loyal fanbase beginning to form, the sudden halt dealt a heavy blow to the band’s trajectory. Like many artists during the pandemic, Deadbeat Blackout faced uncertainty, isolation, and the challenge of keeping their creative spark alive.
Despite efforts to regain footing after restrictions lifted, the band hit another turning point in late 2023 when their original front-person, Hekate Williams, departed the band following a show in Tacoma. Her departure marked the end of an era and left the band at a crossroads.
After a period of reflection and regrouping, Deadbeat Blackout returned with renewed sense of purpose in April 2025. The addition of new vocalist Emily Kaelin infused the band with a darker, more gothic energy elevating their sound to new emotional depths and sonic textures. Kaelin’s commanding stage presence and haunting vocal delivery have reshaped the band’s identity while staying true to the emotional intensity at the core of Deadbeat Blackout’s music.
Now with a revitalized lineup and a fresh creative direction, Deadbeat Blackout stands poised to reclaim the momentum they once had, yet more powerful, more passionate, and darker than ever before.
